How to choose an AI SEO agency in Singapore

No shortage of agencies promise to get you found. Here is how to tell the ones who move your visibility from the ones who bill you for a report you can't read.

In short
  • 01A good agency fixes fundamentals first, publishes specific Singapore content, builds authority, and proves it in YOUR Search Console.
  • 02Red flags: guarantees of rankings or AI citations, black-box dashboards, and 'we'll publish 30 articles a month' volume.
  • 03The correct answer to 'can you guarantee a number-one ranking or a ChatGPT citation' is no.

If you run a business in Singapore and you have decided you need help getting found on Google and increasingly on ChatGPT, you will find no shortage of agencies promising it. The hard part is telling apart the ones who will actually move your visibility from the ones who will bill you monthly for a report you cannot read. Here is how to choose, from people who build this for a living and will tell you the unglamorous truth.

What an AI SEO agency should actually do for you

Ignore the buzzwords and judge on the work. A competent agency should:

  • Fix your fundamentals first. A crawlable, fast site, clear titles, real readable text, a complete Google Business Profile. If an agency wants to sell you "AI content" before your site is even properly readable by Google, that is a red flag.
  • Publish specific, Singapore-specific content that answers the exact questions your customers search, with real facts, not generic filler. The local detail is the point.
  • Work on authority, the links and brand mentions that actually decide rankings, not just churn out articles.
  • Show you the numbers you can verify, from your own Google Search Console: impressions, clicks, position, which pages are moving. If they will not give you access to your own data, walk away.

The questions to ask before you sign

  • "What will you do in the first month, specifically?" A real answer names concrete work (audit, fix indexing, Google Business Profile, first content). A vague answer about "strategy and optimisation" is a warning sign.
  • "How will I know it is working?" The answer should be your own Search Console data and rankings for specific terms, not a custom dashboard only they can see.
  • "Can you guarantee I will rank number one, or be cited by ChatGPT?" The correct answer is no. Nobody controls what Google or OpenAI show. An agency that guarantees a position is either naive or lying, and both cost you money.
  • "Who owns the content and the site changes?" You should. Make sure you keep everything if you leave.

The red flags

  • Guarantees of rankings or AI citations. The single biggest tell. Impossible to promise honestly.
  • Black-box reporting. A dashboard you cannot cross-check against Google Search Console is a way to show progress that may not exist.
  • Volume for its own sake. "We'll publish 30 articles a month" sounds like a lot and usually is a lot of thin content that ranks for nothing. We tested exactly this and it did not move the needle; specific, useful pages did.
  • No interest in your fundamentals. If they never look at whether your site is even crawlable, they are selling content into a leaky bucket.

The honest reality about AI search specifically

Getting cited by ChatGPT or appearing in a Google AI Overview is real and worth pursuing, and for a Singapore SME it is often more winnable than a top Google ranking, because a clear, specific answer can get cited without years of authority. But it is not something anyone can guarantee, and it varies from person to person because AI answers are partly personalised. A good agency will explain this honestly and aim for it as a byproduct of genuinely useful content, not sell it as a switch they can flip.

What good looks like

The agency that will actually help you is the one that starts by making your site properly findable, publishes specific content that answers your customers' real questions in the Singapore context, builds authority patiently, and proves it all against your own Google data. It is less exciting than "AI-powered growth hacking." It also works.

We build rankr for Singapore SMEs and test it on our own sites before charging anyone. If you would rather see the work than the buzzwords, that is what we do.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an AI SEO agency in Singapore cost?

It varies widely, from a few hundred dollars a month for a small local package to several thousand for a full retainer. Be less concerned with the number and more with what is delivered and whether you can verify it in your own Search Console. Cheap black-box work and expensive black-box work are both bad value.

Can an agency guarantee a ChatGPT citation or a number-one ranking?

No. Nobody controls what Google or OpenAI decide to show, and AI answers are partly personalised, so results differ between people. Treat any guarantee as a red flag. What a good agency can do is make you the clearest, most specific answer, which is what makes visibility follow.

Do I even need an agency, or can I do it myself?

Much of the fundamentals, a crawlable site, a complete Google Business Profile, clear content, you can do yourself, and you should start there regardless. An agency earns its fee on the harder, ongoing parts: authority building, consistent specific content, and knowing what to prioritise from your data.

How do I know it is actually working?

Your own Google Search Console. Watch impressions, clicks and average position for the terms that matter, and which pages are climbing. If an agency cannot or will not tie its work to that data, you have no way to know you are getting value.
