What does this SEO checker test?

It reads your live page the way a search crawler does and checks the on-page signals that decide whether you get found: how much text is in the HTML before any JavaScript runs, whether your title is 10 to 70 characters and your meta description 70 to 165, whether the page has one H1 heading, a canonical link and structured data, whether your site has a sitemap, and whether robots.txt lets Google and the AI search crawlers in. Every check runs on the page you paste, in seconds, with nothing to install.

Why does AI search need more than classic SEO?

AI crawlers like GPTBot and ClaudeBot do not run JavaScript. A page that renders its content client-side can look perfect in your browser and still show an AI crawler a near-empty page, so it never gets cited. Freshness matters too: SE Ranking found content updated within the past three months was about twice as likely to be cited as older pages, and separate work from AirOps and Quattr found pages left more than three months without an update were around three times more likely to lose their citations altogether. Classic SEO gets you ranked. These signals get you quoted.

What should you fix first?

Start with anything that blocks a crawler outright: content that only loads with JavaScript, or a robots.txt that disallows Googlebot, OAI-SearchBot or PerplexityBot. Then front-load a concrete, checkable fact in the first paragraph, because about 44% of ChatGPT citations come from the top 30% of a page. Then add a visible published or updated date and Article schema. Is your website blocking ChatGPT?

OpenAI runs three crawlers, and only one decides whether you appear in ChatGPT search. OAI-SearchBot finds pages for ChatGPT's search answers, and OpenAI says sites that block it “will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers”. GPTBot only collects pages for model training, so blocking it keeps your content out of training and leaves you in ChatGPT search. ChatGPT-User visits a page when someone asks ChatGPT to open it. OpenAI says a robots.txt change takes about 24 hours to reach its search.

To check yours, open yourdomain.com/robots.txt. A Disallow: / under User-agent: OAI-SearchBot, or under User-agent: * when there is no separate OAI-SearchBot group, tells ChatGPT search to stay out. No robots.txt at all lets every crawler in. The checker above reads the file the way Google's parser does and names each crawler it blocks.

If your site sits behind Cloudflare, look at its AI crawler settings too. Cloudflare's documentation says that from 15 September 2026, new domains block AI training and agent bots on pages that show ads, while search crawlers stay allowed. That block lives in Cloudflare, not in robots.txt, so this checker cannot see it.

Where these numbers come from

Every figure on this page traces to a named source.

  • The 44% figure is Kevin Indig's analysis of 1.2 million AI answers and 18,012 verified citations, published 18 February 2026 and reported by Search Engine Land. It measures ChatGPT citations specifically, not AI answers in general.
  • The freshness figures come from SE Ranking and from AirOps and Quattr. They measure two different things and are stated separately here.
