Does Blogging Help SEO for a Small Business? What 16 Articles Did

A blog helps a small business rank when each article answers a question people search. B&P Forum's new blog shows what that looked like in its first two months.

In short

  • Blogging helps SEO when each article answers one question people already search for; a feed of news and announcements does little.
  • B&P Forum's blog did not exist in August 2026. After 16 articles, Google showed it 3,967 times and sent it 67 clicks from 1 to 21 October, against none for the same days of August.
  • Each article was built on interviews the forum had already published, so the facts were its own.
  • One article, on how philanthropy works in Singapore, was shown 1,082 times at an average position of 9.0.

Blogging helps SEO for a small business when each post answers a question people already type into Google. At rankr, a Singapore SEO agency, we built a blog from nothing for B&P Forum in September 2026: 16 articles in two months, and from 1 to 21 October Google showed the blog 3,967 times and sent it 67 clicks, against none for the same days of August.

Google Search Console for bpforum.org, pages containing /blog/: 67 clicks and 3.97K impressions from 1 to 21 October 2026, against 0 and 0 from 1 to 21 August

Search Console, bpforum.org, pages containing /blog/, 1 to 21 Aug against 1 to 21 Oct 2026, captured 24 Oct 2026.

What makes a blog post help SEO?

Three things, and the forum's articles had all three.

  • One searched question per article. "How does philanthropy in Singapore work, and who gives the most?" is a question people type, and that article was shown 1,082 times at an average position of 9.0, Google's first page.
  • The answer in the first lines. A reader, Google and ChatGPT should all find the answer before the background.
  • Facts only you have. Each article was built on the forum's own speaker interviews, so it quoted people who had spoken at the forum rather than repeating what other sites say.

Our first client's site shows the same pattern from another angle. The first pages to climb on Google were guides that each answer one narrow question, while seven of its eight product pages in Google in September 2026 still averaged positions 34 to 52.

How often should a small business blog?

There is no set number. The forum published 16 articles over September and October, about two a week, each on a question people search. A new post earns its place when customers keep asking something no page on your site answers. If an existing page already ranks for a question, add the answer to that page instead, which Google Search Console keywords shows how to find.

What doesn't help?

Posts nobody searches for: event recaps, "we are excited to announce", and articles written to fill a calendar. Google's spam policies also name "scaled content abuse": many pages made mainly to rank rather than to help readers, whether a person or AI wrote them. Five SEO myths checked against Google's documentation quotes the policy.

Does a blog still matter if customers ask ChatGPT?

Yes. When we asked ChatGPT who to hire in 11 Singapore trades, 57 of every 100 links it gave went to businesses' own websites, and a guide that answers a buyer's question is one of the pages it can quote. Our first client's free bedroom planner was named first in a Google AI Overview on 12 August 2026, ahead of Planner 5D and IKEA Space Planner. Where ChatGPT gets its information has the full study.

What if you already have talks, interviews or a podcast?

Start there. The forum's speaker interviews were already on its site before the blog existed, and each article pulled from them. Recordings and transcripts hold the answers your customers search for, in your own words. Our podcast work turns one recording into articles like these, and our SEO copywriting writes them from your interviews, with your approval on every page before it goes live.

Frequently asked questions

Does blogging help SEO?

Yes, when each post answers a question people search for. B&P Forum's new blog went from no Google clicks in August 2026 to 67 clicks from 1 to 21 October, after 16 articles that each answered one question.

How many blog posts does a small business need before SEO works?

There is no fixed number. B&P Forum's blog had 16 articles when it reached 67 clicks in three weeks of October 2026. One page that answers a question nobody else answers can bring visitors on its own.

Is blogging worth it for a small business in 2026?

It is when the posts answer questions your buyers type into Google or ask ChatGPT. It is not worth it for news and announcements, which few people search for.
