Should You Put Prices on Your Website? What ChatGPT Does

Publish a price or a range if you can. Customers ask Google and ChatGPT what a job costs before they message anyone, and an answer can only quote a price it can read.

In short

  • Put prices on your website if you can give a figure or a range and say what changes it.
  • Asked for an aircon servicing company on 26 October 2026, the ChatGPT app said it chose on "pricing transparency" among other things, and showed an indicative price on its first pick.
  • A price loaded by a booking widget may be invisible: Vercel's 2024 study found OpenAI's crawlers do not run JavaScript.
  • Businesses with advertising rules, such as clinics, should check what those rules allow before publishing fees.

Yes, put prices on your website if you can give a figure or a range and say what changes it. Customers ask Google and ChatGPT what a job costs before they message anyone, and an answer can only quote a price it can read. At rankr, the Singapore SEO agency that writes this blog, we publish our own: our plans start at S$799 a month, and each lists what it includes.

Why do customers want a price first?

Because "how much?" is the question they would otherwise send you on WhatsApp, along with "do you cover my area?", and the questions your website should answer starts with it. A customer who finds no number on your site has to message to ask, and some will look at a business that shows one instead.

ChatGPT now weighs it too. On 26 October 2026 we asked the ChatGPT app, in a temporary chat, "Can you recommend a good aircon servicing company in Singapore?". Its answer began "Based on recent customer reviews, pricing transparency and service coverage", and its first pick's card showed "Indicative price: S$43.60 for 1 unit, GST included". Of the five pages linked from its picks, two put a price in the title: "Aircon Servicing Singapore from $20/Unit" and "Aircon Servicing Price in Singapore (2026)".

What happens when your price isn't on your website?

ChatGPT can only use what other pages say about you: a directory listing, an old forum thread, or nothing. When we asked it who to hire in 11 Singapore trades, 57 of every 100 links went to businesses' own websites, so your own page is the likeliest place for it to find your price. If that page has none, the answer to "how much" has to come from somewhere else, such as a competitor's price guide.

Can ChatGPT read a price from a booking widget?

Often not. Many sites load prices, packages and quote forms with code that runs after the page opens. Vercel's 2024 study of AI crawlers found that none of the major ones render JavaScript, OpenAI's included, so a price that only appears after that code runs may never reach ChatGPT.

To check yours, open your service page, right-click, choose "View page source", and press Ctrl+F to search for your price. If it is not in the source, write it into the page text as well.

How do you publish a price without boxing yourself in?

A range with its reasons does the job:

  • Give a starting figure or a range, written the way you would quote it, such as "from S$45 per unit".
  • Say what moves it: the number of units, the size, the urgency, the materials.
  • Say whether GST is included, and date the figure so readers know it is current.
  • Put it near the top of the service page, not on a separate page three clicks away.

Some cases are mixed. A one-off custom project may only fit a range with a wide gap, and a business that sells on quality may not want to be filtered by price. Even then, a "from" price tells a buyer whether to keep reading. Clinics, law firms and other businesses with advertising rules should check what those rules allow before publishing fees.

Our SEO copywriting writes service pages with the price, the areas you cover and the answers customers ask in the first lines, and our web development puts them in the page itself, where Google and ChatGPT can read them.

Frequently asked questions

Should I put my prices on my website?

Yes, if you can give a figure or a range and say what changes it. Customers ask what a job costs before they call, and ChatGPT and Google can only quote a price written on a page they can read.

What if my price depends on the job?

Publish a range and the factors that move it, such as the number of units or the size of the space. A "from" price is enough for a buyer to decide whether to ask for a quote.

Can ChatGPT see prices loaded by a booking plugin?

Often not. Vercel's 2024 study found OpenAI's crawlers do not run JavaScript, so a price that appears only after the page's code runs may not reach ChatGPT. Check with "View page source" and write the price into the page text.
